In October 2017, the Foundation for Veterinary Aid International returned to Tanzania. We once again had the chance to work with our extraordinary local partner, Mbwa Wa Africa Animal Rescue. This organization works tirelessly to effect change in the mentality of the people concerning animal welfare, as well as vaccinating thousands of animals against rabies in order to reduce the number of human victims of this terrible disease. They educate owners on the benefits of sterilization as well. The work accomplished by Mbwa Wa Africa is monumental and the Foundation for Veterinary Aid International supports them wholeheartedly.
With more than 70% of dogs vaccinated against rabies in Usa River, Mbwa Wa Africa hoped to pursue its mission in Arusha, the capital of the safari tourism industry. A huge challenge awaited the team of volunteers from FVAI, comprised of 4 veterinarians and 2 animal health technicians.
FVAI was proud to contribute to this inaugural sterilization campaign in the city of Arusha in Tanzania. We performed 121 sterilizations, 90 of which were done in 4 days in the ward of Baraa.
We hope to prove to authorities that it is totally ineffective to randomly slaughter dogs. One day rabies will be eliminated due to vaccination and humane population control.
Mission accomplished for Mbwa Wa Africa and the Foundation for Veterinary Aid International!
