Carriacou (Grenada) October 2024 FULL
Following the devastating passage of Hurricane Beryl, the Carriacou Animal Hospital (CAH) was severely affected and evicted from its premises. To support their vital work and meet the urgent needs of the island’s animal population, the Fondation Aide Vétérinaire Internationale (FAVI) will be lending a hand by organizing a sterilization clinic in Carriacou.
We invite you to participate in this clinic, which will take place from October 27 to November 3, 2024. Whether you’re a veterinarian, animal health technician or animal lover, your help will be invaluable in ensuring that this event runs smoothly.
Your commitment will not only help control the animal population, but also support the community of Carriacou in rebuilding after this natural disaster. Together, we can make a real difference!
Carriacou is the largest of the Grenadine Islands, part of the Caribbean state of Grenada. Known for its peaceful ambience and authentic charm, Carriacou covers some 34 square kilometers and is inhabited by a population of around 8,000.
The island is renowned for its pristine white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters and coral reefs, offering exceptional opportunities for scuba diving and snorkeling. Carriacou’s landscape is dominated by gentle hills, covered in tropical vegetation, and small, picturesque communities that have preserved their traditional way of life.
After Hurricane Beryl, Carriacou was severely affected, transforming its peaceful landscape into a picture of desolation. The hurricane, with its high winds and heavy rains, caused significant destruction across the island, damaging homes, infrastructure and public buildings.
The usually verdant island has seen its vegetation suffer from strong winds and flooding, leaving hills once covered in forest now bare or strewn with felled tree trunks.
The people of Carriacou, known for their resilience, quickly mobilized to begin the clean-up and rebuilding work. The challenges are many, and the road to full recovery will be a long one.
