Baja California is also known as the “little Galapagos of the north” due to its biodiversity. Majestic frigate birds, blue-footed boobies and sea lions that just want to play with you await! The illustrious Captain Jacques Cousteau named the Sea of Cortez “the aquarium of the world” due to the abundance of fish in its waters, and National Geographic called it “the prettiest place in the world for warm water sea kayaking”.
However, all is not perfect in Baja. The villages surrounding La Paz do not have access to basic veterinary care and the cat and dog population has exploded. The Foundation for Veterinary Aid International (FVAI), continuing in its mission to help underprivileged populations, will be operating a MASH (Mobile Animal Surgical Hospital) type clinic with the approval of the community. It is heart warming to see large numbers of people arriving to the clinic site with their favourite pets. The response of the population has been extraordinary. Did you know that FVAI did a record number of sterilizations in one day the last time it was in Baja? The villagers of Baja clearly want to improve the quality of life of their animals and FVAI is proud to offer free basic veterinary services to them.
Baja California is an exceptional place. Do you dream of visiting the Galapagos Islands? You don’t have to spend 20 hours on a plane; there is another option! Espiritu Santos Island situated less than an hours boat ride form La Paz allows you to meet certain animal species found in the Galapagos but for a fraction of the price. The scenery is breathtaking and far from the hordes of tourists found elsewhere. Peace and quiet! Prolong your trip with us and discover this amazing ecosystem. On the menu: kayaking in turquoise waters, hiking in the desert, snorkelling and swimming with sea lions, luxury camping on a deserted beach with memorable happy hours and delectable dishes consisting of your catch of the day. You deserve it!
